Don Cogswell, a writer about boxing history, has written a terrific article on the Choynsky-Corbett fight on a barge in Benicia, Northern California, in 1889. This is not only for boxing enthusiasts; I recommend it to everyone! It has a lot of material about San Francisco in that period as well as now, and gives a hint of the rich significance of this lot for American Social History as well as the history of the sport.
