Robert Doisneau, “A Sideways Glance”

Doisneau full.
Robert Doisneau, “A Sideways Glance”, 1948, printed later. This is a large size print, image area ca. 13 x 15 inches, on a 16 x 20 inch sheet, signed boldly on the recto.  It is in a nice wooden frame. Other rare instances of this size print have the photographers initials and “Un Regard Oblique” on the verso, and we assume this has that as well. We don’t want to remove the print from the frame, but if this is important to a prospective buyer we will do so.

The image has the wry humor that is often found in Doisneau’s images, but it also has a deeper meaning having to do with spectatorship.
