Robert Doisneau, “A Sideways Glance”, 1948, printed later. This is a large size print, image area ca. 13 x 15 inches, on a 16 x 20 inch sheet, signed boldly on the recto. The photographers initials and “Un Regard Oblique” are written in pen on the verso.
The image has the wry humor that is often found in Doisneau’s images, but it also has a deeper meaning having to do with spectatorship.
