Imprinted title on verso indicates this is Wilson’s No. 126. It may be one of a series of earlier views reissued under the rubric of the 15th Amendment to the Constitution (1870.)
As in many cases with stereo view titles, the title gives a strange dimension to the image. The vignetting of the image removes the peripheral information that may have been part of the original. This Amendment guaranteed equal voting rights to all races. It is mind-bending to try to figure out what the image has to do with that subject, other than possibly showing that this person is now entitled to vote. The image itself presents the man without obvious derision. The title tries to give it some current topicality.

Hand-colored stereo view by George Stacy. Strip label on verso with period pen title on verso, and seller’s label of James Cramer. The girl whose nose is out of joint [she’s peeved about something] is up on a chair. The dog seems to have knocked over something. A baby is in a cradle.
