1/9 plate daguerreotype with “DR. VAN ALSTIN” stamped on the bottom of the plate. This may be Andrew Wemple Van Alstin of Worcester Mass. who was known for his very large daguerreotypes (one of the moon) as well as very tiny ones. However I can not find anything about him that would give him the title of “DR.” I have never seen another daguerreotyped marked like that. Otherwise this is a fairly standard portrait, in its original seals. The stippled case with the floral design in the center is quite unusual.
