SCENES IN THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE by Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii. 22 – gelatin silver black and white prints. These images appear to have been photographed directly from the albumen prints at the Library of Congress, probably around 1980, when the photographs were obtained that resulted in the color prints in the previous lot. Both groups of material came together, still in the Kodak box from that period in which the owner obtained them. Most are different from the scenes in the color photographs in the previous lot, though they must all have stemmed from the same archive of original negatives.
