Occupational Tintype: Shoe-stitching, 1870’s, 1/9 plate

Shoe Maker Occupational Tintype

This is an unusual subject — a machine operated by a foot-pedal. This supplanted hand-stitching, and itself was supplanted by motor-powered machines. There are shoes on a shelf behind the machine. This is a 1/9 plate tintype sealed with a modern seal, in a full case.
