Steichen is wittily posed beside the Picasso sculpture of a she-goat, which was acquired by MoMa in 1959.
Signed in pencil lower right.
This is an original FSA print, with the FSA stamp and other stamps and notations on verso. A typed caption reads “Landscape in the area being taken over by the Pine Camp Expansion near Watertown, N.Y. August 1941.” Black lighting confirms that this is a vintage print, a ferrotyped 8 x 10 –inch gelatin silver print. There is also a light pencil inscription by Beaumont Newhall, Museum of Modern Art. There’s a brief vertical tear at the tip.
