BLACK VAUDEVILLE TEAM 1930’S BY SCURLOCK

VAUDEVILLEstump_2This Vaudeville team is “Stump and Stello.” The seated man, in prison garb, may be black although he seems to be in blackface or with a black mask. 10 x 8 gelatin silver print with the stamp verso for the Scurlock Studio in Washington. Addison Scurlock and his studio were the major photographers of the black community in Washington. This is a copy of the 1930’s photograph, by the Scurlock studio. It has markings on the recto and verso for reproduction, and other notations. An example of this photograph is in the Scurlock collection of the National Musuem of American History.
