Bill Witt grew up during the depression, and was inspired by the great documentary photographers of the F.S.A. His first photographic work was photographing poverty in rural India while stationed there during WWII. He continued his documentary photography in NYC as a member of the Photo League, but also studied painting with Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, and returned to painting and art photography in the 1970’s. This and the other Witt photographs we have for sale are vintage prints from his Photo League period.
